Fassbender, Offerman find new projects

Michael Fassbender’s career has taken a steep turn upwards since his breakout performance in 2008′s Hunger, and the actor shows no signs of slowing down, with many considering his performance in 2011′s Shame to be one of the best of the year. One of the major projects he’s due to star in this year is Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, and it seems that the duo have hit it off, as Fassbender is now confirmed as the lead in Scott’s next project, The Counselor. Scott will be working on a screenplay by acclaimed novelist Cormac McCarthy, who has already had two of his novels translated to the big screen (The Road, No Country For Old Men) and will focus on a lawyer who enters the fray in the drug industry. With Prometheus being an ensemble piece, it shall be interesting to see how Scott utilises Fassbender to a significant degree in this instance.

On the other end of the career spectrum is Nick Offerman, a talented comedic actor who was a veteran of the industry when he caught the eye of mainstream audiences as taciturn government employee Ron Swanson in Parks and Recreation. Now news is emerging that Offerman has signed on to Diablo Cody’s directorial debut film, formerly known as Lamb of God. Cody herself is enjoying quite a bit of success of late, with her third script Young Adult drawing raves from many, including those who weren’t a fan of her prior efforts, but this script will be the first one she helms. Along with Offerman, the movie also stars Julianne Hough, Octavia Spencer, Holly Hunter, and Russell Brand. Offerman will be seen next on the big screen in March in a supporting turn in 21 Jump Street.
